One person escaped injury, but their home suffered extensive damage following a fire in Parkland Acres in Lacombe late yesterday afternoon.

Lacombe Volunteer Fire crews were called out about 5:30, arriving to find smoke and flames showing throughout the mobile home.

Deputy Fire Chief Drayton Bussiere says the damage was substantial, estimating a loss of $75,000 “the downside to mobile homes is that their attic spaces are pretty small, so once fire and smoke gets in there, it doesn’t really take that long to do a decent amount of damage, fire has the tendency to spread fairly quickly in mobile homes so that’s kind of the situation we were dealing with”.

Bussiere says the fire started in the kitchen.

Lacombe Volunteer Fire Crews were on the scene for more than 3 hours.
