Kids in Red Deer had the chance to explore their creative side this past weekend.

As part of the MAGnificent Saturdays, the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery held Painting Feet…no I mean Foot Painting, where kids were challenged to create artwork using their feet.

Kids dove feet first into buckets of paint and onto to blank canvases.

Caryn Knievel frequently brings her two six-year-old girls to the museum for MAGnificent Saturdays and said it’s been a great way for them to learn.

“It allows them to build their imagination, get more creative and let loose a little bit. We can make a bigger mess here than we can at home.”

“Especially in the winter when it’s a little bit like ‘I’m not sure how much of a mess I want in my kitchen.’ When we come here it’s always really inviting.”

Every Saturday is different as Program Assistant with the museum Mike Villasana explains.

“We do it every Saturday, but every Saturday we have a different one. Today is foot painting and the next one will be self-portraits.”

Knievel adds the museum is such a huge part of the community and does a great job offering families something to do.

“The museum has so many different programs happening. We come for day camps, we come for this. It’s great for learning and teaching children about lots of different things like history, what’s going on in the city and art.”

MAGnificant Saturdays is a program led by artists that connects their exhibits with an art making activity. Cost is $5 per person or $10 per family. Yearly memberships are also available.
