Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre MLA Jason Nixon will speak at tonight's (Feb 15th) Benalto & Area Rural Crime Watch meeting.

A number of members from the crime watch group attended a meeting at the legislature in November, where victims of rural crime had an opportunity to speak out about what they've experienced.

Jason Nixon was the Official Opposition Leader at the time, and Society President Jim Morton says they wanted to have some more of his time.

“The rural crime watches in central Alberta, over 100 members attended the November 27th meeting at the legislature when we all submitted written forms to the Justice Minister of Alberta, so he expressed our concerns to the legislature and to the party in power and he did an admiral job of it”.

Morton says their membership numbers continue to grow, as people are no longer willing to sit idle and be victims.

“We actually have booked a larger venue for this meeting because our membership is increasing, over 200.  We will have a table set up at the meeting taking new memberships and encouraging anybody that attends to become a member.  The more membership that we get the more political clout we have”.

Sylvan Lake RCMP and Peace Officers from both Lacombe and Red Deer Counties will also be in attendance.

Tonight's meeting (Feb 15th) starts at 7 pm at the Benalto Elks Hall.
