From the Innisfail RCMP:

A 33-year-old Central Alberta man has been charged after a short term investigation by Innisfail General Investigation Section.

Innisfail GIS while doing targeted patrols, observed a van that was confirmed stolen from the University of Calgary the morning of Thursday, November 13th, 2019. The investigation continued and later in the day after a short standoff an arrest was made by the Calgary RCMP Emergency Response Team.  Pedestrian and vehicle traffic was delayed for a short period of time to ensure public safety while the police operation was underway. 

The investigation resulted in the recovery of the stolen van and the seizure of methamphetamine, a prohibited firearm, ammunition, break-in tools, brass knuckles and other weapons.   

Innisfail GIS was supported by Innisfail Detachment along with support units including the Innisfail Integrated Traffic Unit, the Emergency Response Team, Red Deer Police Dog Service, Auto Theft Unit, Red Deer Crime Reduction Team, Forensic Identification Section, and General Investigation Section members from Blackfalds and Sylvan Lake Detachments. 

Tyler James Ratledge (33) of Innisfail was arrested by the Southern Alberta Emergency Response Team in the area of 52 Avenue in the Town of Innisfail on November 13, 2019.  

Rateledge has been charged with 19 criminal code charges including but not limited to:

  • Possess stolen property over $5000
  • Possess prohibited firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unsafe Storage of a firearm
  • Fail to comply with recognizance x2
  • Possess weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Possess break-in tools
  • Drive no insurance, no registration
  • Drive while disqualified

Ratledge has been remanded and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial court on November 18th for a bail hearing. 

Innisfail Detachment General Investigation Section will continue to work on Crime Reduction Efforts in the Innisfail Detachment area with support of these units throughout the winter in efforts to reduce drug and property crime.
