The Town of Innisfail has been named a top 10 finalist for Big Valley Jamboree's "Small Town Saturday Night" contest.

Celebrating BVJ's 25th anniversary and to thank the small towns of Alberta who support their festival, the winner of the contest will get to host a concert headlined by Lacombe's very own Gord Bamford with all proceeds from ticket sales staying in the community and going to a local charity and project.

Russel Klemmer with the Innisfail Kinsmen says if they win they'll put the money towards a skateboard park for the towns youth.

"Right now our existing facility is 16 years old, and it needs significant work. So we've selected a location that's going to be right near the school, the ball diamonds, the pool, and the parks. So it's going to be a central facility for the youth and families to get togehter and grow with the community."

Klemmer says they were thrilled to see their nomination made the top 10.

"Seeing that we were competing with 31 other communities within the province that are all vying for their valuable projects it was nice to see. But having the ability to bring someone like Gord Bamford to our little community would be tremendous. For everyone involved."

As for the local charity, proceeds from the event if Innisfail wins will also go to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Prairies to Peaks.

The winner will be chosen by public voting that will begin March 13th.

Two other Central Alberta communities are also in the running, Rimbey has entered in hopes of raising funds for the Rimbey Boys and Girls Club, and Rocky Mountain House is looking to secure funds for the Rocky Spray Park and Rocky Chuckwagon Association.
