This evening, a free information session will be held at Burman University for those who may be interested in learning more about how to deal with anxiety and depression.

At 7 p.m. in the Marketing and Enrollment building on the Burman University Campus, a free session will help people garner an understanding of what the Depression and Anxiety Recovery Program has to offer.

Mark Glover, a volunteer with the Nedley Depression Recovery Program, said they want to host these free events to engage with the community and let people know about the potential for the registered program.

"This will be an introduction to a course, which is an eight-week program. What we're doing tonight is just giving people an idea of what is involved in that program," Glover said.

The program itself will carry a small cost to cover materials, but other than that remains relatively barrier-free for interested individuals.

Glover said there will be some discussion on brain chemistry and the prevalence of depression and anxiety. He added that people will learn skills and techniques to help them recover from these mental health issues.

"We're hoping people can come to the introduction sessions and see if they would like to give this a try," Glover said. "This will teach people a lot of techniques that aren't necessarily new but can be used every day to help manage depression and anxiety."

The event is open to all community members, not just students at Burman.

"There are a lot of people who struggle with depression and anxiety, and because it's a mental health condition, it's not something that a lot of people are open and candid about, but this is a program that can help," Glover said.

People who think this may be a good fit for them can head to the east entrance of the Marketing and Enrollment building at Burman University.
