Despite a few fresh scandals involving a rising star in their party resigning for white supremacist comments, as well as allegations of using a proxy during the UCP leadership race to attack a political opponent, leader of the United Conservatives Party Jason Kenney isn't letting any of that slow his campaign down.

With the April 16th provincial election officially announced on Tuesday by Premier Rachel Notley, Kenney was speaking at an event in Leduc, where he continued his criticism of the NDP's, pointing out how oil and gas investment in Alberta has dropped since the last election.

“Alberta has gone from the 14th to the 43rd best place in North America in which to invest in oil and gas under the NDP policies. Tens of billions of dollars of investment have fled this province.”

Kenney also spoke about what he saw as the NDP’s government legacy in Alberta so far.

“Albertans are poorer, because of NDP policies. Many small businesses are barely hanging on. The NDP is digging us into a 100 billion dollar debt hole that risks our future and our public services. The bottom line is this: the NDP has the worst economic record since the Great Depression.”

The UCP remains a strong contender for the top spot in the province, as the economic downtown and job creation remains a key factor in the voting minds of Albertans.
