It’s hot and so far, there is no end in sight. Environment Canada has issued a heat warning in Central Alberta which has the potential to be historic. In some regions of the province, the temperature will peak near 40 degrees Celsius. Overnight, temperatures are not expected to cool down by much.

The hot weather has sent thousands of Central Albertans to either Gull Lake or Sylvan Lake for a swim to cool down. Over the weekend, parking at the beach was exceptionally hard to come by and with high temperatures continuing into next week it might be wise to head out early if you’re hoping for a spot, especially as Canada Day approaches.

Additionally, it’s important to take some precautions in the heat. You may want to schedule outdoor activities for the cooler hours of the day, take frequent breaks from the sun in indoor cooled spaces and drink plenty of water.
