A biker organization in Red Deer raised close to $5,000 in support of children who suffer from abuse, including bullying.

Guardians of the Children, the Red Deer Chapter, drove 350 kilometres from Red Deer to Wayne, Alberta Saturday afternoon as part of their Empower the Children Ride event, despite heavy rainfall.

The organization relies heavily on fundraising and President Darryl Hogenson said he’s extremely thankful for everybody who helped.

“We take the kids that we take into our care and our guidance and what we like to do is get them involved in an extracurricular activity to help them with a therapeutic approach.”

“Sometimes that cost money to do that. 100 per cent of our proceeds that we do raise stays in the community we work with.”

Vice President Clint Goodrich said he’s loving the support he’s seen from the community and believes the organization is just going to get bigger.

“For whatever reason, this organization really works. I’m just really happy with what’s happening here and it’s growing more and more every day.”

Funds were raised from a silent auction and pledges for their ride.

Guardians of the Children is a biker organization that started in 2006 in San Antonio, Texas, expanded into Canada in 2014 in Winnipeg, and just this spring Alberta's 1st chapters were patched in, one in Edmonton and another in Red Deer.

The Red Deer Chapter now has over 40 members.
