In recognition of local musicians for all their hard work, Green Goose Entertainment is presenting Red Deer's first Entertainment Awards.

Founder of Green Goose Entertainment, Jesse Roads, said the event is night of recognition and a pat on the back to musicians for all their hard work.

“This time the eligibility and criteria was simple. There’s not a sole in this city that puts on more shows than Quan Diep from True Channel or more metal shows than Justin Shadows from Shadows Production, they have stuff all the time. Anyone in the scene knows that so it’s nice for them to get some encouragement and acknowledgment.”

There are a number of categories this year including promoter of the year, singer/songwriter of the year, the Red Deer scene award and new group of the year.

Roads also said there will also be some exciting performances to look forward to.

“We’ve got Supertrucker closing the night off. We’ve got Randi Boulton, Damian La Grange will be performing. We’ve got Shiv Shanks, Ryan Marchant, it’s going to be pretty cool. Balaclava is performing; it’s going to be an epic night of performances.”

In the future Roads hopes the awards become an annual event and incorporates more public voting.

But for now he said the event is not a competition although the general public will have input on the Group of the Year and Best New Group award.

The event takes place tomorrow night at the Vat. Tickets can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com or on Green Goose Entertainment’s Facebook page.
