Grade 6 Students at Glendale Science and Technology in Red Deer had the chance to showcase their creative and problem solving skills yesterday afternoon.

After months of designing and building two lock rooms, students had them tested by both Mayor Tara Veer and Food Bank’s Executive Director Fred Scaife, before they open to the public later this month.

Students designed the Space Lab where you’re locked in room and must build a robot to get out and the Cargo Hold, where you’re passenger stuck on a plane.

Art teacher Katie Bruinsma said she is extremely impressed with how it all came together.

“I have been really amazed by the work ethic and the amount of effort they put into it and how they just jumped right in and came up with amazing ideas.”

“I think some of their clues are genius, some of the riddles. The locked rooms are really professional quality and made by Grade 6s’.”

Principal Chris Turnball said everything they have learned up to this point will only benefit them as they get older.

“This is what the name of the game is all about.”

“It’s all about critical thinking, it’s all about problem solving, it’s all about having a goal and really seeing it through until the end and not giving up half way because it’s challenging.”

The cost of admission is $5 or $2 plus a food bank donation and is open to the public from May 18-22 along with May 24 and 25.  To register visit www.bit.do/gstsescape.
