The Girl Guides of Canada were on a mission to give back to the community as they progressed towards an achievement called The Canada Cord.

The Canada Cord is the highest award that a Pathfinder can earn.

The requirements include completing the Pathfinder Program as well as extra initiative in the areas of community service, volunteering, and specific hours spent in developing leadership or camping skills.

Present during the morning when they planted the new greenery was Pathfinder leader Kelly Thiessen, who said that the Canada Cord requires the organization of a project that not only benefits yourself, but also the community.

"The girls have done some planting in previous years around C&E Trail, but now they wanted to give some life to the dog park," Thiessen explained.

After receiving a grant from TD's Friends of the Environment Foundation (FEF) program, the girls then planted $2500 worth of trees and shrubs in the Bark Park located in Blackfalds on Sunday (June 24).
