An art auction was held in the town of Bentley on Friday night to fundraise for the Joslyn Snow memorial project.

Joslyn was an Educational Assistant at the Bentley school.

She passed away suddenly last year at the age of 27 with a brain tumor.

Lane Moore, the principal says she was fun loving and easy going.

“Joslyn wanted to do something to give back to her community.”

He says the memorial project is to create a playground and sport court in memory of her, and so far they are almost halfway to their goal.

“She was an EA in our building, she was there for our kids and our community and so she wanted to do something special so what better way to do that than a playground and a sport court for our community.”

There were around 115 different pieces of art donated from local friends and family, as well as some higher up artists in Red Deer and Calgary.

Around 200 tickets were sold for the event.

They passed their goal for the evening and raised around 22 thousand dollars, which puts them close to the halfway point of the 450 thousand they need to raise.

“We miss her and were just trying to do something to honour her memory.”
