Half a billion dollars of support will be given to frontline workers in Alberta to recognize the risks they’ve taken to providing essential services to Albertans. Frontline workers may be eligible for a one-time $1,200 payment.

“Frontline staff in designated fields can get the benefit if they have worked at least 300 hours during the eligible time frame which runs from October 12th of last year to Janaury 31st of this year for most jobs. Private sector employers will need to apply to receive funds and we will distribute those funds as the provincial government to the benefit of workers who qualify. Public sector employees if they are in the government of Alberta system w will automatically receive the money from the provincial money,” explainedAlberta Premier Jason  Kenney.

465-million-dollars will be available to the for frontline workers in Alberta including those in the health-care sector, social services sector, education sector, and private sector. In total, the Alberta Government has contributed a total of 118 million-dollars to the program.

“No one has had to share bigger share of the burden than frontline workers of all kinds in Alberta. They didn’t have the luxury of working from home and they never did. They’ve had to be out there on the job not only to provide for families but to keep Alberta’s economy infrastructure and essential services running and that means being increased to exposure of the virus,” said Kenney during the announcement.
