The Friends of the Blackfalds Public Library are hosting a raffle to in order to help fundraise to enhance the youth space at the new library space. The new library space which will be called The Servus Credit Union Library will be going to into the renovated and expanded Blackfalds Multiplex which will be called the Eagle Builders Centre.

“The Town of Blackfalds and the surrounding area make up these great families and they absolutely love our library. We want to make our library the library that kids brag about to their cousins.  Any fundraising we do basically will enhance and go above what the town of Blackfalds already gives as a budget for the library,” said Denise Sumner, a Volunteer with The Friends of the Library.

Although the new library space will have twice the space, meeting rooms, youth programming and a rooftop patio, Denise Sumner from The Friends of the Library says they are looking help create funding for a few extra elements.

“We buy the funky chairs. We buy the extra computers, the gaming computers for the youth room. We make sure that the kids programming room have the right desks on the right chairs and and things like that. We want to make Blackfalds a destination library for everybody,” said Sumner.

Sumner said the Friends of the Library has been so inspired by great people in the community that they want their library space to be the best that it can be.

“It's a gathering place. We have kids that come and play games. We have seniors that come and read in the comfortable chairs that we provide. There's moms and kids and there's home school groups that come and spend time at the library.  It's not a ‘shush’ library anymore, the library here is a place that people want to be. It's friendly, it's active, there's things going on and there's places to sit and be comfortable. It's just a great place to be,” explained Sumner.

She says there’s been a bit of delay on the construction on the Eagle Building Centre but is hoping the library will be in its’ new home by the end of September.

“I just hope that people support the library and there's lots of different ways to donate to the library. We have a donation wall. We have the 50/50 draw. We have the stairway to learning so there's a number of different options for people to donate to the library to ensure that their name is with the posterity and is supportive of the library,” said Sumner.

You can purchase a raffle ticket until October 6, 2021 and the draw will be made on the following day. You can purchase a ticket for the 50/50 ticket here.
