As part of FortisAlberta’s Save Energy program, Home Hardware in Lacombe will be handing out free dimmable LED light bulbs on Saturday.

For the fifth year the event encourages people to think differently about how they use electricity and how to save money.

Owner of Home Hardware Tyler Nowochin says incandescent light bulbs have removed from use by the Canadian government and explains the benefits of LED.

“LED light bulbs have been designed to replace them in ways that are cost effective now. They have come down in price by about half since they’ve come into the market. LED light bulbs on average last about 20 years and your wattage’s are about 15 per cent of what they are for incandescent light bulbs. Long term they will save you money.”

Each light bulb is valued at $22 dollars and is limited to one per household on a first come, first served basis.

Other participating Home Hardware’s include Alix, Innisfail, Olds, Ponoka, Rimbey and Rocky Mountain House.
