Former Staff Sergeant of the Blackfalds RCMP Ken Morrison is settling in nicely to his newly created positon of Manager of Emergency Management and Protective Services for the Town of Blackfalds.

That means he'll be the man with the plan if Blackfalds ever has a major emergency situation, something Morrison says is an important step as they continue to explode in growth.

“It’s no secret that the Town of Blackfalds have seen unprecedented growth over the last several years, and I think this is an opportune time to build on that, and build on policies and procedures, and bring forward the plans that are necessary for a community of this size now.”

Morrison says this new positions allows him to continue his work with a lot of the same people he previously worked with, as well as developing new relationships and skills.

“I’ll be working alongside fire and community peace officers, as well as liaising with the RCMP. Developing emergency plans for the Town of Blackfalds, as well as critical incident policies and procedures to ensure that various locations within the town are maintained safe.”

Morrison says as Blackfalds continues to grow at an exceptional rate, they'll begin to face similar problems of larger municipalities, and plans must be made in the event of serious emergencies.

He'll also serve as a community peace officer, enforcing bylaws and responding to calls after retiring from the RCMP about three weeks ago.
