As we head into the weekend, it may be worth noting that many parts of central Alberta are still under a fire restriction.

Fire bans are continuing throughout Central Alberta. Now, Red Deer County has joined the County of Lacombe in declaring a fire restriction. As a result, all current burn permits have been cancelled in both the Red Deer and Lacombe Counties.

Under this restriction, the following is still permitted:

  • Safe wood campfires
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbeques
  • Catalytic or infrared style heaters
  • Safe wood campfires should be within metal, brick or a rock fire ring. They should also be on rock, gravel, sand, or another non-combustible surface.

It is recommended you always have a responsible person in attendance of the fire and have enough water on hand to extinguish the fire before leaving. It never recommended to leave a lit campfire unattended.

In Ponoka County, Ponoka, Rimbey, Clearwater County a fire advisory is in effect. Burn permits are still in effect but no fire permits or firework permits are being issued at this time.

There is no fire ban in these cities and towns:

  • City of Lacombe
  • City of Red Deer
  • Town of Blackfalds
  • Town of Sylvan Lake
  • Town of Penhold

A fire ban is in effect for much of southern Alberta including Mountain View County. Under a fire ban, all outdoor fires and recreational fires not in an acceptable fire pit and fireworks are banned. No fire permits and firework permits will be issued at this time.
