Sylvan Lake’s town council directed administration this week to go ahead with designs and plans to install wood-burning fire pits within Sylvan Lake Park that will be used in the winter.

The town’s communications coordinator Joanne Gaudet said the fire pits are intended to help make Sylvan Lake a winter destination as well.

She added they fit into a plan by a Chamber of Commerce subcommittee to expand the winter village by the pier.

“The idea of it becoming more of an attraction is heightened in the winter. Coming together, enjoying the outdoors, skating, enjoying the lights, we’re trying to create that winter village atmosphere,” Gaudet said.

Council also passed a budget adjustment of $6,200 for additional staffing and supplies.
