Imagination, community spirit, and a whole lot of kindness, helped students at Father Lacombe Catholic School donate $476, and another 646 pounds of food to the Lacombe Food Bank.

Teaming up with Cilantro and Chive, students got to create their own personal dream burger, which was then made and sold to Chive customers, with proceeds from the burgers going to the foodbank.

Teacher Laurie MacIntosh says her students were excited to help out.

"There's just somthing special about putting on that kindness cape. They love to put them on, and whenever they do, they know they're doing something special in the community. It just connects them to the community in a different way, and hopefully when they're older that connection stays and they keep making contributions to all of the services we have here in Lacombe."

$2 from every dream burger sold at Cilantro and Chive was donated to the foodbank, and MacIntosh says it made for a very memorable food drive.

"There's something about doing a food drive as an adult and just dropping off food. But when you can walk a whole class over, and show them where the food bank is, who works there, why we do this, and see an empty shelf now full. It just puts a whole new meaning into a food drive."

The foodbank says they plan to buy some children's lunches with the money donated.

MacIntosh says she and the students didn't know how well their Dream Burgers would go over with the community, but thanks everyone who did go in an buy one.
