From Red Deer RCMP: Red Deer RCMP arrested a man yesterday afternoon after an argument in a parking lot ended with a man being struck by a car that then fled the scene.

Shortly before 2:30 pm on December 6, RCMP responded to a report of a hit and run in the Walmart parking lot at Parkland Mall. Witnesses report seeing two men argue prior to the collision, and the pedestrian was struck by a Ford Focus that then fled the scene.

RCMP attended immediately and began a search for the suspect vehicle, which they quickly identified through witness statements and surveillance video. They located the suspect at his home shortly afterward and took him into custody without incident.

The 70 year old male pedestrian is in hospital in serious condition after sustaining a head injury.

A 37 year old man will face charges of:

  • Criminal Code 267(a) – Assault with a weapon
  • Criminal Code 252(1.2) – Fail to stop or remain – person injured

His name cannot be released at this time as those charges have not yet been sworn before the courts.
