A Calgary energy company specializing in secondary and tertiary oil recovery will be hosting an open house in Clive later today to talk about their proposed enhanced oil recovery development project for the area.

Enhance Energy plans to inject carbon dioxide into the depleted Clive oil reservoir’s to loosen up and extract the last remaining oil.

President Kevin Jabusch says while this isn't the cheapest way to extract oil from the ground, it's the final stage of a reservoir “the primary recovery is definitely the first thing you do, typically water flood is the secondary recovery, so in terms of tertiary recovery, this is definitely more expensive than primary, but if we do it right and we do it in the right reservoir’s we think we can make a buck”.

Jabusch says this practice has no impact on the environment “we put CO2 in the ground and it should stay permanently and so essentially we’re going to end up with a net zero carbon footprint from our out production. So we leave more CO2 in the ground for every barrel we produce then that barrel makes when it is fully combusted, so it’s a very positive project in this time where we are all focused on carbon footprints”.

You can learn more about their project plans in the Clive area at today’s open house which runs from 4-8 at the Clive Arena's Meeting Room.
