You have an opportunity to educate yourself on drug trends currently impacting our community and what to do in the event of an overdose through a presentation in Lacombe tomorrow night.

The Turning Point Society of Central Alberta is hosting the session at the Mary C. Moore Public Library in the LMC starting at 6:30.

Nursing Manager with Turning Point, Sarah Fleck says there will definitely be time spent talking about fentanyl, which is readily available on the streets in Central Alberta and overdoses are happening frequently.

“the problem with fentanyl is it’s a really inconsistent and unpredictable drug because it’s being produced generally in China and shipped over to Alberta so it is not a drug that is being prepared and has quality standards with it. Our clients would describe it as Russian roulette every time they use it, the other problem with fentanyl is it’s being disguised as other drugs so clients are often unaware that they’re taking fentanyl”

Fleck says the talk will also “introduce people to harm reduction and what harm reduction is, information related to the different kinds of street drugs that are currently on the streets in Central Alberta. From there how do those drugs work in the body, what happens if you take too many of those drugs or if the drugs are too strong for you and then how to respond to an overdose situation”.

It's a community presentation, all are welcome.
