Early this morning at 4:30 a.m., Ponoka RCMP responded to a call of a vehicle that had driven into the ditch.  On RCMP and Emergency Medical Services arrival, it was determined that the driver was deceased.

The car was travelling northbound on Highway 2 near the exit for Highway 2A when it veered off the highway and travelled into the ditch, coming to rest close to the train tracks.  The 55-year-old male driver from Grande Prairie was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that this collision was very likely the tragic result of the driver being in medical distress.  The RCMP will not be releasing the name of the driver, nor any further details on this investigation.
