After losing most of its inventory to thieves, a Central Alberta charity has since re-opened thanks to donations from the community.

Dress for Success, a nonprofit organization that offers services for women who require clothing to return to work, was broken into at the beginning of November.

Board Chair Dagmar Hargreaves said most of their stock was taken including winter boots, coats, jewelry, clothes, shoes and makeup.

She added that since the break-in, support from the community has been overwhelming.

“Red Deer is such a giving place; it just warms my heart to know there are so many good people out there. Donations are continuing to come in. We’ve had businesses that have had clothing drives for us and people donating from the goodness of their hearts.”

Hargreaves also said they are continually accepting donations.

“We’re always looking for in season items. Any women’s career clothes we are always taking because even though we have been able to replenish, things go out very quickly as well.”

Donations can be accepted on Thursdays and Fridays, but Hargreaves is hoping that changes in the New Year as they continue to re-organize.
