Alberta Transportation has plenty of road construction projects underway and on the books in Central Alberta.

You'll soon notice a couple of paving projects on the major corridors of Highway 2 and 2A, with the work to be done at night to limit the impact on motorists.

Public Affairs Officer Julie MacIssac explains what to expect.

“Paving sections of Highway 2 between Highway 53 near Crestomere and Highway 13 near Wetaskiwin, work will start this summer and be complete weather permitting this fall. Sections of Highway 2A will be paved this summer from Highway 11A north of Red Deer to Highway 597 south of Blackfalds, as well from north of McKenzie Road to England Way (south of Red Deer)”.

Many of you have to travel through the Highway 2 / Gaetz Avenue Interchange construction on Red Deer's south end every day.

Work resumed mid-April and MacIssac explains what you can expect to materialize there.

“This year we’re going to be building bridge supports for the Taylor Drive bridges and do construction for the Gaetz Avenue bridge, and constructing the new alignment for the north and southbound lanes of Highway 2 between Gaetz Ave and Taylor Drive. As well, the construction of the Leva Avenue roundabout.”

If you need to head east of Lacombe, paving is underway on Highway 12 from Tees to the Town of Stettler, with a total of 46 kilometers to be paved there.

And paving work on Highway 815 between Ponoka and Lacombe should be complete within the next couple of weeks.
