It's been one week since a fire destroyed one man's home just east of Lacombe and many items are still needed to replace what was lost.

Last Wednesday around 6pm Doug Watts, his girlfriend Sandra Durant, her daughter and cat Jumpy escaped from the house that was engulfed in flames.

Watts had been living in the 30 year-old-house, originally belonging to his parents who purchased the land in 1934, for only eight months.

Without any insurance to replace what was lost, Watts’ daughter Skye has started a Go Fund Me campaign and said her father is in need of the following items:

- Socks

- Boots and shoes size nine

- Large shirts and sweaters

- Long Johns

- Large winter coat

- Hat and gloves

- Winter gear

- Large pajama pants and slippers

Skye also explained that her father will be in need of furniture but until they have a place to store it, it will be hard to accept larger items.

His girlfriend only had a few items at the property at the time of the fire, along with her daughter.

Lacombe Fire Chief Ed van Delden said they are unsure if they will get a definitive cause of the fire given how severe the damage was, although they have an idea of where it started.

“From the rear corner, right around the chimney area, we suspect the origin of the fire was around the wood stove or the chimney that extended from it,” van Delden said.

Damage is estimated to be around $500,000.

If you have items that you would like to donate, you can drop them off at the front desk of Lacombe Ford or you can donate through Go Fund Me.
