The 6th annual Lacombe Culture and Harvest Festival is going on right now here in Lacombe.

It all starts with the grand opening of the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex this morning, with free family fun events happening there all throughout the day.

The majority of events around town are free for everyone all weekend long, with activities taking place at Pentagon Farm Centre, the Michener House Museum, the Kraay Family Farm, and of course the LMC.

Executive Director with Lacombe Regional Tourism Marie Peron says along with the usual community markets, petting zoos, and historical appreciation events, there will also be a few new additions this year.

“We also have this year which is brand new, a film festival. So it’s called the Central Alberta Film Festival. They will be showing movies at the Lacombe Memorial Centre on September 29th, 30th, and October 1st, so all throughout the festival weekend.”

Person says you may have also noticed local businesses around downtown getting into the spirit of this weekend.

“They’re doing a downtown scarecrow competition this year, to encourage people to go out and walk around town, and also participate in voting for their favourite scarecrow this year.”
