Since 1995, the Cow Patti Dinner Theatre has been putting on productions here in Alberta, and they are gearing up for their 2017 season with a sold out opening night tonight (November 16th).

A story about the joy and magic of the holiday spirit will kick off the dinner theatre season tonight at the Lacombe Golf and Country Club.

The one of a kind professional comedy dinner theatre treats you to laughs and food, as well as playing a big part in giving back to local charities or non-profits that may not be as prominent as other charities.

Artistic Producing Director and Head Cow AnnaMarie Lee says the first night's proceeds from ticket sales, silent auction, and the famous plop drop, will be put into a bursary in honor of a former cast member Sawyer Kiist, who tragically passed away earlier this year in a car accident.

“The bursary is there for any young person who feels there’s a passion they have. It doesn’t have to be for the arts, Sawyer was also a sheep farmer, so if someone wants to get in agriculture, he was very much into karate, to so if somebody wants to pay for their karate lessons. So it’s not necessary a bursary for post-secondary education, it’s for somebody that we shares his passion and we want to help them carry on and follow their dreams.”

Lee says they always dedicate a few show nights a year to a local group or charity, and it’s  something she is really proud of.

“It’s a way for smaller non-profits groups to be able to raise some funds to help further their causes, whether it’s the Caroline seniors wanting to put new cupboards in their kitchen, or sending money over to grandma’s taking care of their grandchildren in Africa. The Lending Cupboard is a very big one for us, I think we’ve done one for them the last seven years.”
