Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) sent a letter to the students and parents of the Ponoka Secondary Campus on Wednesday announcing that an official outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared at that school.

The Alberta Health Services declaration comes after WCPS said on Sunday that one case of COVID-19 was detected in their schools.

Then on Wednesday, they announced a second case, which AHS said was enough to satisfy their criteria to declare an outbreak.

WCPS says the first case was the same one announced earlier in the week, while the second case was identified on Wednesday.

Alberta Health Services has advised these cases are NOT the result of in-school transmission.

At this time, based on advice from AHS, Ponoka Secondary Campus will remain open, and in-school classes will continue.
