The airport in Lacombe has now been renamed the Lacombe Regional Airport, after the City, County, and the Lacombe Flying Club came together in a formal agreement.

For years the Flying Club ran the airport, with funding support from both the County and City of Lacombe.

Now, they are all officially tied together through an Airport Operating Agreement to see that partnership head into the future.

At Lacombe County Council this morning (Thursday, September 28th), the County agreed to an operating budget and a long range capital plan for the airport with those two other groups.

Manager of Corporate Services for Lacombe County Tim Timmons says a feasibility study was conducted in 2015 regarding the Lacombe Airport, and all three groups are working together to bring the recommendations from that study to life.

“Our Council also approved the terms of reference for the committee today, as well as the 2018 Operating Budget, and received for information a multi-year capital plan which really establishes a program for some capital upgrade, much needed capital upgrades for that facility.”

The City of Lacombe approved the Airport Lease and Operating/Funding Agreement at this past Monday’s Council meeting.
