A woman who has spent a large part of her professional career working with young families in Lacombe is hoping to serve residents in another capacity come this fall.

Cora Hoekstra, who has worked with the Parent Link Centre for the last 12 years, is vying for a seat on City Council.

She's setting out to learn more about what residents like about Lacombe and why they've chosen this community to plant their roots in.

“I think the focus has always been about issues and maybe criticisms and complaints, but I would like to start from the place ‘what is it that you value about our city’ so that City Council ensures that in making our decisions that we always retain those things that people value, because interestingly as you search out and try maybe new endeavors, you might erode the very things that people value about Lacombe”.

Hoekstra says it's those core values that she wants to use to help represent residents in the decision making process.

She calls herself a regular taxpayer who has loved life in Lacombe and she wants to ensure all residents are afforded the same quality of life she's enjoyed.

“Through my work I encountered a lot of people who chose Lacombe as the place to live and thrive and raise their families and I really like that concept. I wanted to continue that, I want to be part of a movement, part of the Council that we always ensure the quality of life for our families in Lacombe is great.”

Hoekstra says she's always had an interest in municipal politics and the timing is now right for her to try and continue to build community in Lacombe in a new capacity.

So far she will be joined on the ballot this fall by current City Councillors Wayne Armishaw, Wayne Rempel, Bill McQuesten and Reuben Konnik, as well as Thalia Hibbs, Chris Ross, Don Gullekson, Sandy Douglas and Jonathan Jacobson. Peter Bouwsema and Grant Creasey are seeking the Mayor’s chair.
