The City of Lacombe has awarded contracts to 3 companies, as construction on Main Street draws near.

The first phase of the Main Street Program is set to start in about 2 weeks.

April 24th to be exact.

At last night's City Council Meeting, contracts were awarded to Pidherney's for construction at $5,595,587, Stantec for construction and post construction consulting services at $335,983, and Parkland Geo for geotechnical testing services at $62,195.

Mayor Steve Christie says that's just the budgeted cost however and they're hoping each company will find ways to both speed up work, and cut costs if possible.

Christie says they have everything in place to minimize a potential headache.

"We're doing everything we can to make this go as smooth as possible. We will have a full time consultant on site, for 10 hours a day, for any issues that might pop up. Dan from Pidherney's has been great, at all the open houses, and he'll be on site too. We're also moving Jordan Thompson downtown."

Christie notes that while construction crews work through to October, business will still be open.
