The extremely cold weather has brought upon many issues with vehicles not wanting to start and many other issues for Lacombe residents.

One issue that can be crossed off that list is the proper use of extension cords and how to avoid a fine.

“No person shall place or prevent to be placed an electrical extension cord across a sidewalk or driveway whereby any person, animal or vehicle be in any way injured or damaged,” says Deven Kumar, Communications Coordinator for the City of Lacombe.

It turns out; a fine can be given if your extension cord is in the way.

“Electrical extension cords must not be placed across public sidewalks or driveways because they can create dangerous trip hazards,” says Kumar.

To avoid that ticket, you need to raise that cord up high and out of reach of anyone who may not see it.

“If you need to plug in your vehicle or trailers please ensure that the extension cord is suspended 8 feet or 2.4 meters above the sidewalk.”

Another important thing to note is that although this bylaw is most needed in the winter time it is actually in force all year round.
