City of Lacombe and Lacombe County residents interested in the vision for long term future growth are encouraged to drop by an open house tonight to view a draft Intermunicipal Development Plan.

That plan sets out a vision for the land that borders both the City and County, working to strike a balance between protection of agricultural land and future residential growth for the City.

Senior Planner with Lacombe County Anita O'Driscoll says it's been about ten years since the last update to the IDP and there's a new vision “particularly those lands around Rosedale Valley and Barnett Lake, as well as the lands that are west of Highway 2. As part of this Intermunicipal Development Plan we were very fortunate to get a collaboration grant from the province so we have also done a servicing study”.

Planner with the City of Lacombe Jennifer Kirchner says it's a joint plan between the two municipalities to ensure cohesive future growth “there are a couple of areas that have been earmarked for future growth, so those are the areas where we anticipate the City is going to grow and these areas might in the future be potential areas for annexation or for them to develop in alignment with what is moving forward in the City”

Engineers and project planners from Stantec Consulting, as well as both City and County staff will be on hand at tonight's open house to answer questions.

It runs from 6:30-8:30 in the County Room at the LMC, with a presentation planned for 7 pm.
