Christmas arrived to seniors in long term care at the Lacombe Hospital yesterday thanks to a Lacombe woman and her Adopt a Grandparent initiative.

This marks the 3rd year that Brandy Forgeron set out to ensure all seniors felt loved this holiday season, and after reaching out for more sponsors, yesterday she was able to deliver 90 gift bags.

Once again Forgeron says Santa stole the show "when we get up there in age and our memory is not as it should be, the one thing we don't ever forget is Santa and I say that because there was one of the residents who was asleep and the nurse went in to wake him up and when he woke up he said Hello Father Christmas I've been waiting for you, it was beautiful".

Forgeron is thanking everyone who stepped up to support the cause, they even ended up with some surplus cash donations which will be passed along to the Lacombe Food Bank.

She's already dreaming to help more in our community next year, with hopes of adopting Grandparents at other facilities in Lacombe.

In the meantime Forgeron has issued a challenge to the community to reach out to the seniors in our community all year long "I think we could maybe take the time to go and volunteer at any of the long term care facilities in Lacombe, take the time to do our criminal records check, and get cleared to do this.  Let's make sure everyone has a family not just at Christmas, but throughout the whole entire year."
