The first ever Central Alberta Film Festival kicks off today, with 38 features on display, many of which were made right here in Alberta.

The festival will be held today and tomorrow at Carnival Cinema's in Red Deer.

Film Selection Coordinator Dino Busch says there are a few options for any movie buffs in the region that would like to check out the action.

"We have a special package for $30, which includes your choice of either Pushing Dead. Which is a featured film out of San Francisco starring Danny Glover. Or She Has a Name, which was produced by a local company. There will be appetizers, then continue with our after parties. We've got a big selection of Directors who have said they would be there."

Busch is also the judging coordinator and has seen each film.

Adding they have a great selection and variety to offer.

"We've got some really good documentaries, if people are into those. The bundles are really cool because you get a mixture of everything. You'll get comedies, science fiction, short documentaries; they're all thrown into these bundles. So if you pick a bundle and go see some shorts, you'll see just a real mix of good stuff."

Things kick off at 2:30 this afternoon, at Carnival Cinemas.
