The 19th annual Hospitals Lottery Draw picked their grand prize winners on Friday, and a Caroline resident managed to walk away with the grand prize dream home.

Sharmane Hindbo's name was drawn as the winner for the $839,900 Red Deer dream home, along with over a hundred other people who won other prizes.

Events Manger for the Red Deer Regional health Foundation Alaine Martin says the money raised from the lottery will go to a much needed upgrade to patient’s beds.

"Latest technology in beds where it helps both the patient and the caregiver. Goes lower, goes higher, so the caregiver can help them out, plus the patient can get in and out of the bed easier. It actually has better fabric on it, so if you are in bed for a really long time the likelihood of beds sores is reduced. They're air mattresses that can actually adjust patients that can't adjust themselves."

Bruce MacKenzie of Blackfalds was also a big winner, taking home $228,925 through the Mega Bucks draw.

Each year the lottery donates the money raised to whichever part of the hospital needs it the most.

Last year the money raised went to cardiac enhancements at the hospital.

Other prizes this year included a 2017 Ford Mustang GT, and 2017 Dodge 1500 Crew Cab Sports 4x4, and various sports equipment and home furniture packages.

The total amount raised and the number of new beds to be purchased thanks to the donation will be revealed once all the numbers are in and accounted for.
