Although it has been a strange year, it doesn’t mean Canada Day is completely canceled. Here are some Canada Day activities you can look forward to even with the ongoing pandemic. 

Lacombe

Entertainer Parade, July 1, 5PM-7PM

  • Local entertainers Flashback Freddie, Alecia Aichelle, Mike Szabo, CJ Berube, and Randi Boulton will be doing drive-by performances between 5 PM and 7 PM on Canada Day. At 7 PM join the City in a collective singing oh ‘Oh Canada.’ 

Decorate your house for Canada Day

  • Lacombe Tourism is encouraging Lacombe residents to decorate their homes for Canada Day. Submit a picture of you, your family, and your decorated home for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a business in Lacombe. Entries must be submitted by July 2nd. 

 

Blackfalds 

Fireworks on July 1st, 10:40 PM at All-Star Park

  • There will be a musical fireworks show in Blackfalds staged and best viewed from All-Star Park. 

 

Red Deer

Virtual Canada Day July 1st with the Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society 

  • The Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society will be putting on a virtual Canada Day. Stay up to date with their plans on their Facebook page. 

Fireworks, July 1st, location TBD

  • Fireworks at Bower Ponds will be unable to go on this year, but the Red Deer Cultural Heritage Society is working on hosting fireworks for Canada Day 2020 for the socially distant crowd. The location is still to be determined. 

Drive-in for Mental Health with Gord Bamford at Westerner Park, July 1st

  • Support mental health charities across Alberta and enjoy a drive-in concert with local country music artist Gord Bamford. 

 

Innisfail 

Fireworks Display, June 30th 

  • The Town of Innisfail will be celebrating Canada Day with a fireworks display at dusk. The show will be staged at the west side of the Town of Innisfail Twin Arena and everyone is asked to respect social distances while they view the show. 

 

Ponoka

Fireworks on July 1st, 11:00 PM

  • The Town of Ponoka and the Ponoka Stampede Association have partnered to put on an exciting fireworks display. The fireworks will be staged at the Stampede grounds; however, visitors will have to get creative to see the show as the Stampede grounds will not be open to the public. Despite this, the fireworks should be visible from most parts of the community. 

 

Sylvan Lake 

Virtual Canada Day

  • Sylvan Lake will be hosting an online celebration of Canada Day. Learn facts and information about Canada. Listen to the talent of local artists. 

Show us your colours

  • Share a photo of you and your friends or family dressed in red and white for a chance to a Town of Sylvan Lake prize pack including a one-month membership to the NexSource Centre. 

Canadian Chalk Art 

  • Get the little artists in your home to create a sidewalk chalk masterpiece. The first 100 kids to share a photo of their work will win a Town of Sylvan Lake sand bucket and shovel, sunglasses, and a treat. 

Canadian Window Dressing

  • Decorate your front window with your favourite Canada-themed decorations for a chance to win a $100 gift card to a local Sylvan Lake business of your choice. Share a photo for a chance to win! 

Culinary Canada

  • It’s time to perfect your favourite recipe and share it with the world! Share the ingredients and directions to make your favourite meal or treat for a chance to win a $100 gift card to a restaurant in Sylvan Lake. 

 

Wetaskiwin

Decorating Contest 

  • The City of Wetaskiwin is inviting residents to decorate their homes or yards for Canada Day for a chance to win $250 to $500. Wetaskiwin City Councillors will tour registered homes and pick their top 10 winners. Remember to register your house before July 2nd at 12:00PM. 

Scavenger Hunt

  • Wetaskiwin FCSS is hosting a scavenger hunt for individuals and families. Both family prizes and adult prizes will be available and awarded on July 3rd. To Participate, you must download the app ‘ActionBound.’ 

 

Stettler 

Fireworks July 1st at 11:00PM

  • The Town of Stettler will be hosting a fireworks display that will be staged at West Stettler Park. Residents of Stettler are asked to view the fireworks from their properties or vehicles in order to ensure safe distances between all viewers.
