UPDATE: Emergency crews were able to get the fire under control late Thursday evening.

Early investigation determined the cause of the fire was due to sparks caused by a passing train.

Lacombe County Fire Chief Drayton Bussiere says with conditions as dry as they are, it doesn't take much to start a grass fire.

“We are still under a fire advisory, it’s very dry outside so, I remind everybody to be extra cautious, keep your cigarette butts in your vehicle in your vehicle if you’re driving those type of things are really helpful when it’s this dry out.”

Bussiere says crews from several neighbouring municipalities answered the call, and were on scene until late last night.

“We had crews on scene until about 11:30 last (Thursday) night. So when the sun goes down we pull everybody out of the bush and stuff like that, so we had to leave some hot spots overnight, so we are just going back this (Friday) morning to finish them up.”

Bussiere says crews went back to the spot Friday morning to deal with any hot spots that flared up overnight.

There were no injuries or damage to structures reported, but Bussiere again reminds everyone how a single spark or carelessly discarded cigarette butt could quickly turn into a dangerous fire.

With the high wind in the area this fire is out of control, so crews are asking you to please avoid this area.
