The new year is bringing in some new snow, as much of Central Alberta woke up Thursday to more of the white stuff falling.

At 11:20 am, Bentley emergency crews are responding to an MVC on Highway 20 south of Bentley near the Blindman River, please use caution in the area.

At 7:20 am, we received a report of a double semi-trailer jackknifed on the QE2 in the southbound lanes just south of the Lacombe overpass, with half of the semi still in the slow lane. Use caution in the area, as reduced visibility is making it hard for people to see the semi until you are right upon it.

There are also reports of another semi-truck jackknifed along the QE2 southbound, this time closer to 11A overpass, no word yet if it's blocking any lanes.

Traffic is low moving along the QE2 southbound, north of the Highway 11 overpass at 10:15 am Thursday morning.

The temperature is expected to drop to around -14 this afternoon thanks to that windchill, so road conditions might be even more hazardous on your way home this evening.

That blowing snow may reduce visibility in some areas this morning,  road conditions are quickly deteriorating as the morning goes on, with snow and ice-covered roads reported all around the Lacombe and Red Deer area according to the AMA Road Reports.

The Alberta highway traffic cameras are showing much of the same, blowing snow all along highway 2, including south of Bowden all the way to the Didsbury area, and out west towards Rocky Mountain House is also reporting blowing snow.

There is a chance that ice could be a factor today as well, as the temperature is expected to sit between -3 and 0 for much of the day, so make sure you give yourself some extra time for your commute this morning.

511 Alberta is also reporting that there will be some guardrail work on the QE2 southbound today from 7 am until around 5 pm, just after Highway 604. You can expect delays in the area today.
