From the Town of Blackfalds:

After a successful turn-out by the community and media at the Multi-Plex Arena Expansion Open House on April 17, the Town is excited to unveil the concept renderings of the future project for public consumption.

While feedback was generally positive, the Town is now looking for more public input through a short survey available on the Town’s website at www.blackfalds.com/tourism-recreation/multi-plex-ice-arena.

Website visitors will have the opportunity to view a gallery of conceptual renderings of the new ice surface as well as the second phase of the project; a new home for the library. The expansion will also include various community spaces, combining arts and culture with recreational programming.

While the expansion will require municipal funding, the Town will also be looking for sponsorships, naming rights and other groups who may want to help.

Construction costs have already been built into the Town’s long-range capital plan.

The expansion will cost around $15 million for the arena and is on track to be built in 2021.

The library is the second phase, which is estimated to cost 4 million and projected to be built in 2024.

The project has had widespread support including from the Dual Ice Development Society (D.I.D.S) who have committed to raise $1 million through various fundraising efforts, most recently through the Raise the Rink fundraiser which raised $40K.To get involved or donate please visit dual-ice-development-society.ca/ or follow them on Facebook.
