The new park will have a number of impressive features, including jumps made out of wood, clay, and dirt ranging in difficulty levels from beginner to expert.

It will also include a smaller track within the track designed for younger kids who may not even have peddles on their bikes quite yet.

Also included will be a perimeter track around the outside of the park, so that parents can ride around and watch their kids, or smaller kids can still ride and have fun, and not be in anyone's way, potentially causing a dangerous collision.

The park will also include a state of the art drainage system, so pooling water won't eventually wear down or warp parts of the track.

Sean Barnes is the Director of Community Services for the Town of Blackfalds, and he says projects like this is what makes Blackfalds such a popular destination in Central Alberta.

"I think it's a huge importance to Blackfalds. We're a community with a young population, and I think to have this (park) that's mirrored right to the skateboard park is going to bring a different flavour to the community, and to have this type of recreation opportunity is going to speak volumes for Blackfalds, and that's why people are moving here".

The next step, says Barnes, is to do a traffic safety audit for the area, since that area includes a school, the Abbey Centre, skateboard park, and soon the Bike Skills Park, and will likely have a lot of foot traffic during the summer and after school hours.

The park is expected to be open by the end of August or mid-September.
