As a tribute to both the country and the town, residents of Blackfalds revealed their addition to the Canada 150 Mosaic Mural project.

Taking 26 hours to assemble, the mural is made up of 900 individual tiles hand painted by students, professional painters, and volunteering residents.

Additional symbolism was implemented in the mural giving more depth to the project.

Recreation and Culture Programmer, Kurt Jensen spoke about the meaning of the symbols.

"The Blackfalds logo with the black sheep in the background pays homage to our town name and history, the young person reading with a parent or teacher represents the young families of our community, and finally the ball glove and cyclist represent the active sports and recreation in Blackfalds"

Jensen added that every community's mural will be on a train car, which recognizes the importance of the nation-wide railway system which is continually uniting the country.

Nearing the goal of 150, just over 120 municipalities have painted murals so far (1,000,000 tiles painted), which already makes this the largest mural project in Canadian history.

He also stated that the completed project will be reaching out to the Guinness Book of World Records to see if they qualify for the largest mural in history.
