A Blackfalds resident is $250,000 richer after winning the lottery almost a year after the ticket was drawn. The 6/49 lottery ticket was drawn on September 11th, 2019 and Stuart Purvis had all seven winning numbers.

Purvis found himself out of the country for work and COVID-19 travel restrictions meant he couldn’t come home until August. When he returned home, he checked the ticket and noticed he had the winner.

He picked up his ticket at the Blackfalds Esso at 5113 Indianna Street.  Purvis checked his ticket twice at two different ticket checkers before claiming his winnings on September 10th, 2020.

“I was just shocked!” Purvis laughed while claiming his prize in September. “At first I thought it was $2,500, and then I checked it again…and had to grab my glasses to count the zeroes.”

In normal circumstances, his ticket would have expired on September 11, 2020. However, accommodations have been made for players like Purvis who have experienced uncertainty because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  With that taken into account, he would have been given an extra six months to claim his ticket.

Heading forward, Purvis looks forward to investing his winnings.
