The Town of Blackfalds is working to add another outdoor green space to their community.

The town has been in possession of a section of land given to them by the Tutty family on the South end of the community, and they've been waiting for the perfect time to develop the pond for community members to use.

But with construction to bring a new shopping centre to the South end of Blackfalds soon to begin, a new park at the Tutty Pond will also be built.

Mayor Melodie Stol says Blackfalds has really worked to bring a variety of outdoor spaces to their community.

"So whether that be playground space, or natural spaces, this pond opportunity is a really nice to continue with that concept. That we offer a variety of parks and playgrounds within the community. And I would be remised if I didn't thank the Tutty family. Who have dedicated the land to the town several years ago."

Although they've been in possession of the land for some time now, they've been waiting for the perfect time to develop the pond for community members to use.

Stol says thanks to the Blackfalds Crossing Development coming to the South end of the town, they'll be able to fully utilize everything the pond has to offer.

"Now we have the opportunity to do these upgrades and really allow people to enjoy it. So we've left it completely natural at this point, just because of a lack financially, and a lack of concurrent developments. So again our thanks to the Tutty family, for their generous donation to the community. We hope we do it justice with the design that's been proposed."

Development of the pond and park will cost 90 thousand dollars, but is included in the construction costs of the Broadway Avenue realignment project.

The new park will feature a paved walking path and leading to a pier and viewpoint overlooking the pond.
