Since 1998, the name Stol has been a part of Blackfalds Town Council, whether that be as councillor for the first 9, or as mayor for the last ten.

Now, Melodie Stol has decided that it's time to move on, and she announced today (Sept 12) that she will not be seeking re-election this fall.

Here is Stol in her own words.

“Every election cycle gives us an opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments of the past, and our goals for the future. And after much consideration with my family, we have decided the time is right for a new path, and I’ve accepted a full time job. Being mayor for the past ten years, and being on council for the last 19 years total, has been such a tremendous honor. I’ve watched our town grow and mature, and am very proud of all that we have accomplished together. It’s really hard to describe what Blackfalds means to me, and the role I’ve played in its development. I will always love our town. I wish the best to those who are stepping forward as candidates in this election. The hard work never ends, and the challenges that Blackfalds is facing over the next term will need a team of people to work together towards common goals. And I hope people use this election cycle to really research all those who are running and really make the best choice.”

Stol says when it comes to talking about the things she is proud of accomplishing during her time, she says none of it would be possible without the hard working people around her.

“There’s just too much to be proud of (laughs). But it’s also important to note it was not just me, you cannot be successful unless you had the team of wonderful people around you, with the councilmen with the staff. And of course, the people who live here. I hope that council really reflected what people had been asking for.”

Stol has accepted a full time position elsewhere, and is looking forward to spending this election cycle watching instead of participating.
