A community conversation starts tonight (Mar 28th) in Blackfalds as the Town, alongside Lacombe Foundation and the Bethany Group start plans for a seniors housing project.

(Dec 12/17 - Blackfalds moves ahead with seniors housing partnership - L-R: Blackfalds Mayor Richard Poole, Melodie Stol of the Bethany Group, CAO Myron Thompson)

A public consultation will be held at the community centre, which FCSS Manager Sue Bornn says they will use to launch a survey seeking feedback.

“We’ll ask a bunch of questions, give us an idea of what might be a good fit.  Through Bethany Group and Lacombe Foundation, those guys have the expertise when it comes to senior’s housing, we’re hopefully going to get some great feedback so we can build a great facility”.

The town has purchased about an acre of land at the corner of Broadway Avenue and South Street for the housing project.

Bornn says there's been a lot of focus on amenities for the young families in the community and it's time to shift gears.

“In Blackfalds we have such a huge number of young families that it’s sort of easy to sometimes forget about our ageing population.  This survey is going to help us determine what the needs are in town”.

Tonight's first community consultation on the project runs from 6-8 pm at the Blackfalds Community Centre.
