The Town of Blackfalds is hoping this trend of warm weather continues, so they can start construction on a new Bike Skills Park, and have it ready for the summer.

Hoots Limited has been awarded the contract to build the park, that will go next to the skate park that's currently undere construction.

Mayor Melodie Stol says they wanted to bring a unique amenity to the town for the older youth in the town, but there's another benefit with the park.

"Having something that no one else has in the area is important to us. You know you can make a great weekend out of it, by coming and using the outdoor pool, then using the bike skills park. Or maybe you're coming to Blackfalds for a baseball tournament, and you're looking for activities for your kids to do while you're playing in the slow pitch tournament for example."

Stol says they looked at what surrounding communities had to offer, because Central Albertans use each others facilities, and they didn't want an overlap.

"We don't have the indoor pool, Lacombe has the indoor pool. So making sure our residents feel comfortable sharing amenities amongst each other is a real positive. And it's really nice to offer the kids a nice safe place to play with the things they like to play with."

Construction crews will also be building a parking lot in between the bike and skate parks, which Stol says will also be used as overflow parking for the Abbey Centre on busy days.
