The spotlight was on the businesses in Blackfalds on October 16 at the 2018 Business of the Year Awards. There were around 400 nominations for 51 thriving businesses in the community.

Economic Development officer Jennifer Hartigh said they had a full house to cheer on the different companies. The event keeps growing and she says it’s thanks to the encouragement of each operation to another.

“It was a great night it really was wonderful every year we think it went well and then the committee goes and out does itself.”

There were 5 different categories for the awards with a total of 6 winners.

5 Star Auto Detail won the Long Standing award.

Solidgoldesthetics took home the New Business award..

For the second year in a row Happy Camper Children’s Boutique received the Retail award..

The Service award went to Ing & Mckee insurance.

A tie for first for the Community Spirit award was given to Blackfalds IGA and The Service Credit Union.

“The community centre was pretty much full which was great to see and I really feel like our business community supports one another and always comes out to celebrate each other’s successes, so whether they are winners or not they want to be there and have that time together to celebrate their hard work.”

The event was held at the community centre, and was put on by the Blackfalds & District chamber of commerce and the town of Blackfalds Economic Development & Tourism Committee.
